This is the third time I have had the pleasure of photographing Little Miss E and I believe that she gets cuter and cuter as she ages. Dave and Griffin came along to this session so that they could spend some time outside and Griffin could see the cows at the farm, but Griffin also did a good job of getting Miss E’s attention so I had to utilize him to keep her attention near my camera on numerous occasions. Worked like a charm! Griffin is shaping up to be a good assistant already! Two can be a challenging age to photograph, but Miss E did amazingly well! She was a trooper throughout the session and we really got to see her personality shine through with genuine smiles and laughter. The location her parents chose could not have been more perfectly suited for the dress she was in and at times, it reminded me of a scene of The Secret Garden. Here are a handful from their spring photo session….

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honor of photographing Collin’s senior portraits. This was the second time that I was able to photograph Collin as I photographed Collin and his brother last spring for a father’s day gift for his dad. Collin will be graduating high school this June and will be entering the US Marine Corps at the end of the summer. Collin will be going to boot camp in Parris Island, SC and plans to enter the Security Forces. As I photographed Collin, I couldn’t help but think how hard it must be for mothers to see their kids leave the nest, but even harder to know that they are leaving for the military and that they aren’t going to be there to protect them anymore. At the same time, mothers must be so proud of their children’s decision to go fight for their country so they can do the protecting for a while. I am sure it is a bittersweet experience.

Wait until you see the blonde beauties I am bringing to you today! I was happy to have the pleasure to photograph these two little ladies and their brother recently and they gave me a run for my money! Mr. D did not want anything to do with my camera from the beginning and I got a number of images like the one below….

We let Mr. D do his own thing for a bit and we caught a couple of his sisters… oh my, are their parents going to have their hands full in another 10 years or what?!Nothing better than belly laughs with your sister…Finally, Mr. D decided he was ready for his close up but he would only agree to the terms of the shoot if he got to use his own props… Thanks for letting me document this period in your lives!

Since before Griffin was even conceived, I had been hearing about how awesome our daycare provider was. One of my former co-workers described her as the “toddler whisperer” and I fell in love with the fact that she teaches the kids at her house New Zealand manners by clinking their cups at snack time and saying, “Cheers, Mate!” Tania is a an amazing woman who cares for all of the kiddos in her house as if they were her own and Griffin has been very lucky to have her in his life. Tania is probably one of the coolest moms I know. She encourages her kids to try new things and Jamie and Leo are into everything! Anywhere from swim team, to guitar lessons, to now football and softball… Tania is there cheering them on every step of the way. I admire that about her and about the way she parents. She thinks that kids should be outside playing instead of sitting in front of the TV and she always tells her kids that they can be great at whatever they set their minds to. I was excited to pay Tania back for everything that she has done for us and for Griffin by photographing Jamie and Leo a few weeks ago. Tania forewarned me that Jamie and Leo weren’t going to be down with posed smiley pictures and I told her that was fine because I would rather capture them in their element, kids being kids.

This is what happened when I tried to get Jamie and Leo to stand together for just ONE picture. Leo wasn’t having it! This is his death glare to Tania because she promised him that there wouldn’t be any posed pictures! Haha! Sorry Leo, that was my bad!

Leo is playing football for the first time this year and I think that this picture lives up to his team name, The Chargers! I would be intimidated by you Leo if I was your opponent!

Tania has always told me what a girly girl Jamie can be because she loves clothes and anything fashion, but these go to show that girly girls can be tough too! Check out those legendary tie-dyed purple socks!! Did I mention that Tania was the coolest mom around?

Dave and Griffin came along to the session with me and Griffin was sure to give Leo a high five for all of his modeling efforts!

Thank you Jamie and Leo for letting us hang out with you for the afternoon and thank you especially for always being so good to Griffin! He is lucky to have both of you in his life and I know that he adores you both! Tania, all I can say is you rock and we are very thankful that we found someone that we could trust with the most important person in our lives. I hope you know how much you are appreciated and admired!

Meet the amazing cute and adorable Austin and Payton! Austin and Payton’s mom uses the same daycare provider that I have used since my son, Griffin, was born and I headed back to work following maternity leave. Austin has always been the child that could keep Griffin happy and entertained! I can remember the first few months that we dropped Griffin off in the mornings when he was an infant, that Austin would come running over to pinch Griffin’s cheeks and give him a kiss on his head. It was good “baby practice” because a little over a year later, he had a new sister to squeeze and kiss when Payton arrived last spring. If their mother is anything like me, I wonder if she worried that no child could live up to the cuteness standard set by their first child, but Payton stepped up to the plate! How parents could get so lucky to have TWO such adorable kiddos is nothing short of amazing! Austin has affectionately nicknamed Payton “Sprinkles”. She is so sweet, I think that it fits perfectly!

I am not feeling well this evening, so my writing skills are lacking. But I did want to post this one session from a few weeks ago. This was the second time that I had the pleasure of photographing sweet little Ellie! She is getting so big and has changed so much from last time! Ellie just turned one a few weeks before this session and it is SUCH a fun age. Watching her walk around the gardens and squeal with excitement was SOOOO much fun to watch. She makes my heart feel happy when I look at her pictures. Thank you for allowing me to take her pictures again, Mom & Dad! I am so glad that you were able to endure being in Duke country for a couple of hours!

The G-man attended his very first Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday before I went to shoot a wedding. He was not as thrilled about the experience as we thought that he would be! Haha! The picture on the left below says it all! “You what me to do what with the eggs, Ma? Really? Reaaaaally?” As we sat and waited with all of the big kids, I seriously contemplated whether we needed to head home because he just looked miserable! He was so pitiful!

When the three and under crowd was given the whistle, off he went with determination. If the picture below on the left could have a caption, it would be “Prepare yourselves little plastic Easter eggs! You are about to be hunted by the Griffinator!!”

After a few eggs, Griffin aborted the hunt for more fun endeavors…….

(I know that the last picture is unfocused, but I don’t care because he just looks so happy!! And besides…. it is my blog and I can post unfocused pictures if I want to!) :)

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! Maybe Griffin’s hunting experience will be a bit more joyous next year! Haha!

Dear Griffin-

Once again, I am a day late and a dollar short! I missed your 17 month birthday but I gave myself the excuse that it was in February, and technically, there isn’t a 30th day of February. You turned 18 months old yesterday. Holy-COW! You are a year and a half old already! Where has the time gone?! You change by leaps and bounds everyday that it is beginning to be hard to keep track of everything that changes within the month. First, you have absolutely NO patience and you have become the king of the temper tantrum and do it with dramatic flair! You must get that from me! You hate the word “No”, and if you receive it, you typically throw your head back, slamming it into the ground that it is a wonder that you do not give yourself concussions on a daily basis, and you seem to be able to unhinge your bottom jaw from the rest of your face and are able to jut your jaw and your bottom lip far out into the world and then scream the most whiney, annoying, sound that any human is capable of making. It is quite becoming. Ummmm… yeah.

On a far more positive note, you are starting to say more words now. In addition to Dada, Ma, and thank you, we have added baby and dog to your vocabulary. You have also started to say “Uh-Oh!” all of the time when you drop something or fall down, but really it is more like an “Ah!…….Oh!” (with a long dramatic pause in between syllables). It is SO cute! When you went to the doctor this morning, your doctor said that we needed to start keeping an eye on your language development, but hopefully you will start talking more when you are ready. Who has time for learning to talk when you have been developing your amazing dance moves!! You have the most rhythm of any toddler I have ever seen! You LOVE music and have some of the cutest dances known to this planet. The last few weeks you have started trying to stand on your head without using your hands, and I keep telling Dad that you are preparing to do headspins any day now! You are going to be Mommy’s Little Break Dancer aren’t you? Speaking of breaking…. you have been to urgent care twice this month. Apparently this is a sign that you are turning into a little boy instead of my baby. You have had “nursemaids” elbow twice this month and have given your Mom and Dad panic attacks both times when we have seen your arm hanging limp by your side. You are so active and LOVE to be outside. Dad gives me anxiety by letting you go down the big-boy slide at the playground, but you LOOOOOOOOOVE it! You giggle uncontrollably as you climb the stairs of the jungle gym and you squeal with excitement when we catch you at the bottom. Then we do it all over again…. again….. and again…. and again…. and again. You have started bringing us your shoes when you want to go outside and it still seems so strange to have you communicating your wants to us in a way that we can understand what you are asking for.

You have started to snuggle more recently, and it makes my mommy heart feel so good! Not to mention that it balances out some of the temper tantrums too! You have also started giving open mouth kisses which are pretty nasty and slobbery. For the longest time, when I ask for a kiss, you would press your forehead to my lips, but now you are trying to meet your lips to mine but forget to close your mouth first. It’s gross… but funny. You still let me blow-dry your hair after your baths, and apparently that is an oddity because people always look shocked when I tell them that I dry your hair and that you sit patiently in the sink while you get your style. Don’t people know that we have to work to have that gorgeous head of hair?!

I love you little man and I am so very proud of you!

Love,

Mom

P.S. Typically I post a picture of you with your birthday posts, but I realized this evening that I didn’t have any recent shots of you. So therefore, Dad and I planned a stealth operation to get a picture of you while you were sleeping. We shut off all of the noise in the house and turned off all the lights, and snuck into your room, me armed with my camera and Dad armed with a flashlight. I signaled to turn the flashlight on and I didn’t even get a quick shot before you sat straight up! Dad flew out of the room in quick fashion and I chose to stand very still and hoped that if I didn’t breathe, you wouldn’t see me standing there in the dark. You saw me. Sorry buddy for waking you up! I will add a picture sometime this week!

I am a little behind on blogging this session, but better late than never, right? I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph this adorable little family right before I left for WPPI at the beginning of the month. I was originally supposed to do this session the weekend before, but I was getting over strep throat and I did not want to risk bringing leftover germies over to their newborn. Their oldest daughter, Briella, is about around 18 months and they just had their youngest daughter, Maria, a little less than two weeks before our session. Mr. Lamphere better prepare himself, because his little girls are GORGEOUS!! He could have a rocky road ahead! Briella was quite concerned at first about what I was doing with her little sister, but I think I started to win her over towards the end of the session! Briella seriously was one of the smartest 18 month olds I have ever seen in my life! She knew some counting, she knew her shapes, she knew her colors and so much more! She had this one toy where you sorted different colored shapes on to different pegs, and she knew exactly what she was supposed to do. She would sort appropriately, and then she would intentionally but the wrong shape or color on the peg and would then look up at her parents and giggle because she knew she was being silly and putting it on the wrong peg! Then she would get her parents to laugh and she would put it on the right peg. It was AMAZING! It is obvious that her parents have spent a lot of quality time with her! It makes me want to be a stay-at-home mom!!

Here is the shape peg game! Silly Briella… putting a yellow triangle on the purple rectangle peg!

Their dog, Lotto, wanted to make sure that he was included in the family portraits! This shot makes me giggle!

Thank you guys for allowing me to take part in your family’s history! Now I am off to go teach Griffin some shapes! Ha!
